Ondoy

Typhoon Ondoy brought one month’s worth of rainfall in six hours. It submerged Metro Manila and almost the whole of Luzon in flood waters, killed hundreds, end injured even more. It also destroyed millions worth of properties.

My mom said it happens almost every decade, that a strong typhoon, bringing huge floods come to the Philippines. Yeah, maybe. But this was the first time that I really experienced it, that it affected our family. Being stranded from the high waters in the highway was not unusual for us back then. But our house, for the first time, was reached by flood waters. It even entered the house and made damage to the flooring, wooden and electrical items, and our cars.

I know we were the lucky ones who did not loose any loved ones, had trauma from waters getting higher than us, or loosing our source of income. And for that, I am very grateful.

I pray for those who were gravely affected. As Filipinos, I know we will pick up the pieces and move on.
