August 13, 1992 was announced to be the Left Hander’s Day. From then on, it is celebrated annually..

Left-handedness is the dominance of the left hand for daily activities such as writing or eating. Most “lefties” are ambidextrous- comfortable with the left and right hands. Left-handedness is relatively uncommon; 90 to 93 percent of the adult population is right-handed.

Studies show that exposure to higher rates of testosterone before birth can lead to a left-handed child. A “southpaw”- jargon for left handed- usually has a difficult time adjusting to several right handed activities like writing, shooting, or playing the guitar. This is the reason why they learn to adapt to using their right hands. Good thing there are several companies which produce items for left handed people.

Several famous lefties include Sir Paul McCartney (The Beatles) , Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Jimi Hendriz, Ringo Star (The Beatles), Fidel Castro, Benjamin Franklin, Marie Curie, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, and Tommy Hilfiger.

Several family members and friends are south paws too. These are Jake (my brother), Glen Ramos (my cheatmate), Rock Opina, John Lorenzo (the poging pogi), and Fe Santiago.
