Hanging Up on Obama
Can never imagine that someone could hang up on the next world’s most powerful person- President-elect Barack Obama.. not once but twice (as a famous Filipino actress said). Miami Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen got a phone call from Obama himself. Thought it was a radio prank and wished the caller good luck then politely hung up on the President-elect. She claimed that usually aides talk to look for her first before passing the phone to the “important” person.
In this case Obama called her up directly, just wanting to greet her for her re-election and that he is looking forward with working with her on Foreign Affair Issues in Congress.
Obama’s Chief of Staff called her up again to tell her that it was really Obama who called her. Again, she politely hung up!
She finally believed it when her fellow congressman called her to say that it was really Barack. She asked an inside joke first to check it it was really her co-congressman.
Obama finally called again. She apologized. They talked about foreign policies, etc.
He told her “anytime my ego gets too pumped up, I think Michelle will remind me that you hung up not once, but twice on me,” Ros-Lehtinen said.
