A "Nightmare Match" for De La Hoya

The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was full of supporters of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Oscar “Golden Boy” de la Hoya.

Dubbed as the “Dream Match”, it didn’t end up that way for the Mexican- American boxer. In every round of the fight, Pacquiao was the clear winner. At the end of the 8th round, de la Hoya threw in the towel.

Never did I see any fight where the Golden Boy had his face so beaten up like that. What a way to walk towards his retirement.

For the Pacman, a sure $20 million (around Php 1 billion) for this fight is not that bad. Honor and respect is a bonus! Plus his cash flow from all the pay-per-views, endorsements, prizes and the other extra income- he can retire anytime. I doubt if that will be the case.

Perhaps a much bigger match is on its way with Ricky Hatton. It is expected to be the biggest fight of all time. Bigger than Mahammad Ali’s, Tyson’s, and others.. If ever, it will be in Europe- a first for Manny. How much more do you think would he get from this fight?
